God Heals Broken Hearts| Bible Verses for Those Tough Seasons

As a mother of two, I understand the intense desire to shield my children from any hurt or pain. I often find myself thinking that, this is the easiest time I will ever have at this mission because, their young age allows most of the pains they experience to be easily fixed with a loving kiss or a Band-Aid.

However, I am fully aware that there is a time coming when they will face the sting of disappointment and heartbreak, as we all do. In those moments, while I may not be able to heal their pain, I know someone who can

The Bible mentions multiple names for God, and today I want to introduce you to, Jehovah Rapha, the God who heals.

What does the Bible Say about a Broken Heart?

The Bible says that “The Lord is near the brokenhearted; he saves those crushed in spirit” (Psalms 34:18). When we truly understand the truth about heartbreak, we can find peace in knowing that God is with us.

If you are currently carrying the weight of sorrow, please know these three things:

1. Its okay to not be okay.

Even the strongest of believers have experienced painful moments. Jesus himself wept when he saw the brokenness of Mary and Martha. (John 22:5) God wants us to come to Him in our moments of sorrow. We don’t need to bury our feelings because our God is big enough and strong enough to handle everything we are carrying.

If you are currently in the middle of a soul-crushing season, please don’t feel the need to come to God with a “perfect” prayer. He will hear the voice of your cry. (Psalm 34:4-8) He understands your pain and longs to hold you through those moments.

2. You to know that you are not alone.

This is one of the biggest lies that brings isolation, and causes sorrow to dig deep. There is someone who has gone through what you are going through now, no matter how painful it may seem. There is always hope to make it through and know that you are never alone in your grief, anger, or pain. Just like God has brought others through, He will do the same for you.

3. God can bring healing and restoration.

Biblical definition of restoration

The biblical definition of restoration is to heal restore and renew. It can also be interpreted as rebirth. It can be easy to learn how to live wounded, but that is not God’s desire for us.

We often hear the saying, “time heals all wounds,” but I can personally attest that it’s not entirely true. There are some hurts and pains that I have carried for so long that I forgot what caused the pain in the first place.

Our God is a God of healing and restoration, but it requires vulnerability. We need to be able to place all of our hurt and pain into God’s hands and allow Him to write the story of our lives. Trusting that He will bringing everything to a good end. You were not created to live in hurt; you were not created to live broken. Yes, our hearts may break, but because of God, they can also be restored.

The truth is that the things we go through in this life will change us, but they don’t have to change us for the worst. With God’s full healing, even in the midst of hardships, it is possible.

It may not always be immediate, but it will come. The Bible tells us that joy comes in the morning. (Psalm 30:5) This is why, even in the midst of heartache, we are never without hope.

“Even in the midst of heartache, we are never without hope.”

Way Anchor

God sees our pain, and He has already has a solution to heal it. We simply need to trust Him and allow Him to walk us through the process.

Pain tells us to withdraw, but God is calling us out to reach toward Him, to keep our eyes on Him (Isaiah 26:3)

In seasons of my life where I have felt broken, there were times when the only word I could say was “Jesus,” but that was all I needed to say.

So, I encourage you today, my friend, if your heart has been broken, cry out to God. He will heal and restore, and He will make all things new.

As you read through this list of Bible verses, I pray that you find yourself encouraged.

How were these verses chosen?

This list will remind us of who God is. How he heals and brings restoration.

I also chose many verses from the book of Psalms because David knew the take of heartache very well. He was not afraid to face the pain.

As we read through the book of Psalms, we can find a lot of encouragement. You’ll see the balance between David crying out to God from a place of deep sadness and depression, and also crying out to God with praise. Acknowledging that though times are hard, he knows that God will bring him through. This balance is truly inspiring and reminds us that through it all, our God is faithful.
