Verse of The Day
1 John 3:20 NLT
“Even when we feel guilty, God is greater than our feelings, and he knows everything.”
I know krok personal experience that feelings can be wild. Even when it comes to our relationship with God. We can repent from our sins. Love those around us. Pray. Read our Bible and still “feel” guilty or even condemned.
That is when we need this verse. When our own hearts condemn us. Yes, there is a difference between feeling condemn and being condemned.
He promises to forgive us and He does. (1 John 1:9)
It’s important to remember that feelings are valid, but they are not truth. We can admit how we feel, without allowing our feelings to determine who we are. That means the actions we take are based on faith in God’s finished work. Guilt is not our driving force or an indication that it’s time for us to start working to earn our salvation.
Let’s take a closer look…
Hebrews tells us that we are to walk by faith and not by sight. (Hebrews 11:1) That means the actions we take are based on faith in God’s finished work.
1 John 3:20 says that God knows all things,
meaning He knows our shortcomings and our mistakes
and He still chooses to forgive us,
casting our sins as far as the east is from the west. (Psalm 103:12)
There is still hope and His name is Jesus.
It’s not a hope based on what you can do in the future. It is a hope rooted in what Christ has done in the past.
So if your heart condemns you today, remember that God is greater than your heart. He has forgiven you. So you can have peace today.
Prayer
Lord, thank you for the finished work of your life given on the cross, and for the full forgiveness and redemption from our sins that it provided. God, even in the moments where my heart says I’m not enough, when my heart condemns me and I feel that feeling of guilt, help me to remember that it is your finished work that counts, that you have chosen to forgive me and you see me right where I am. Help me to walk by faith and not by how I feel and to follow your lead every step of the way. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
Bible Verses About God’s Forgiveness
Romans 8:1 – “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”
2 Corinthians 5:17 – “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”
Journal Prompts
When was the last time your heart condemned you even after you had repented? How did you respond to those feelings of guilt, and how might you respond differently knowing that God is greater than your heart?
