Ok Sis, today, let’s debunk one myths that may be holding you back!
Faith is so necessary and is something we all strive for. The Bible even tells us that we cannot please God without it. (Hebrews 11:6)
However, it’s important to understand what faith so we don’t end up striving for the wrong things. Don’t worry, I’m here to help! This is why for the next few weeks we will uncover:
Faith Myths. Things that can mistakenly take the place of faith in our hearts.
So let’s talk about the myth of the week:
Faith is a feeling
This is such a big one for me. Well for a lot of us. So let’s get into it! In my years of ministry, I have had the privilege of praying with and coaching a lot of women. And one of the things that we pray about the most is feelings.
With comments like:
- I don’t feel like God is with me
- I feel alone.
- I feel afraid
I have heard them all and said them all.
Our feeling can be very strong and convincing. It is hard to keep our mind on God when our heart is heavy.
But the good news is our feelings are Just That.
Feeling don’t prophecy what will happen. They are not always true. They don’t even always indicate the desire of our hearts.
I am going to tell you a quote that changed my life.
Two things can be true at the same time.
You can feel frustrated, scared, and doubtful, and still be a strong woman of faith.
Take Job, for example. He went through the most terrible season of his life, losing his family, health, and home. Even with terrible friends blaming him for everything, he still held onto his faith and prayed for God’s help, despite expressing his turmoil and asking questions along the way.
Check out these quotes from the Book of Job:
“Therefore I will not restrain my mouth; I will speak in the anguish of my spirit; I will complain in the bitterness of my soul.”
Job 7:11
AND…
“As for me, I would seek God, and to God would I commit my cause, who does great things and unsearchable, marvelous things without number “
Job 5;8-9
You can see Job crying out and placing his trust in God.
Faith does not mean we are blind to struggle. Don’t fall for the trap of toxic positivity, or the pressure to always be positive. It can be harmful and cut us off from getting help when we need it. It’s okay to acknowledge our struggles and talk about our challenges.
Remember, faith in Christ won’t stop life’s storms from coming, but it will bring us peace and anchor our lives in the midst of the storm. It always us to face whatever comes with boldness. Because we know we won’t face anything alone.
God is with us. Was with us. And will always be with us. Holding in to this truth despite how we feel is what faith is all about. The Bible says it like this:
“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” (Hebrews 11:1)
Faith is what we have when feel like hope is gone. It is the evidence when we cannot see God Moving.
Hold on to your faith today Freind!
