A Devotional about God’s Love
As a child, I always felt like I had to meet everyone’s expectations just to fit in. This way of thinking didn’t just influence how I dealt with people; it also affected how I connected with God. Deep down, I knew God loved me, but truly embracing that love? Well, that felt almost impossible.
For a long time, I busied myself with the idea of pulling others up, never realizing that my efforts were wearing me down instead.
Until… I learned to rest.
I mean, really rest in God’s love and peace. This discovery transformed everything, bringing a serenity I was unknowingly seeking all along.
This blog post delves into the journey of finding rest in God’s love—a journey that, while challenging, ultimately brought life-changing peace.
Imagine your life as a massive puzzle, with every piece meticulously placed by your hard work. It feels like if you let go, even for a moment, everything will come crashing down. But here’s the truth:
It’s Okay to Let Go.
Jesus is the cornerstone who holds all the pieces together
There’s a comforting promise that can make this daunting task a little easier. As mentioned in Matthew 11:28-30, we’re invited to release our burdens and find rest. When you let go, life doesn’t fall apart; it falls into the hands of our God.
Peace Through control is an Illusion
Too often, the fear that the ‘enemy’ instills in us — is that things will fall apart if we don’t maintain a tight grip convincing us to work tirelessly. We might believe that througe enough struggle can we control the outcome. However, there is immense peace in surrendering control.
We Set it Down Because He Cares
“Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.”
1 Peter 5:6-7 ESV
Allow the love of God — His care for you, to break you free. Embrace the peace that comes when you trust the safety net of God’s faithfulness.
I’ve witnessed firsthand the usless struggle of trying to manage everything alone. But when I finally took a step back and relinquished control, I found that life didn’t crumble; it was held together by Jesus.
“Aren’t two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them falls to the ground without your Father’s consent. But even the hairs of your head have all been counted. So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many of sparrows.” Matthew 10:29-31 CSB
God is remarkably detailed and intentional, intimately aware of every thing he creates. He created you. Each venture and trial we encounter he knows.
He is the Good Father He knows exactly how to guide and encourage us, skillfully persuading us to pursue paths that lead us back to him.
Here is a practical way to practice, resting in God’s love, as you cast your cares in him:
Start by journaling whatever is on your mind. Just spill it all out, from worries about what others think to uncontrollable things like the weather on an important day. You could write about how you’re feeling regarding a decision, concerns about someone’s reaction to your news, or anxieties about next week’s big presentation.
Once you’ve emptied your thoughts onto the page, take a moment to read and reflect on your worries. Imagine handing them over to God, placing them in His capable hands.
As you do this, write something like, “God, I’m handing these over to you.”
Wrap up your journaling with gratitude, thanking God for taking on your burdens and giving you peace. Make this a regular practice, like your morning coffee. The more you do it, the easier it becomes to trust and let go, so you can learn to rest in his love.
