Read: John 4:1-42
One of my favorite stories of Jesus, is easily the Samaritan woman at the well. From it we get the beautiful picture of Christ’s boundary-breaking love.
In those days, no Jewish man, let alone a rabbi, would find himself alone with a Samaritan woman. Cultural, racial, and social norms stood tall between them. But, Jesus torn down every wall, extending his grace and love to this unnamed woman.
Jesus sees past every societal label and the scarlet letters of our mistakes. He sees us fully—our shame, our secrets, and the past we want desperately to hide.
Remember how Adam and Eve, in the Garden of Eden, covered themselves to hide their shame? (Genesis 3:6-10) They tried to hide from God after their disobedience, afraid to be seen as they were. But God sees all, not to condemn us, but to cover us in love and grace.
Now back to the woman at the well. In their conversation Jesus, offers her “living water,” a promise of eternal life and fulfillment. He invites her to worship “in spirit and truth,” meaning from the heart. We’re encouraged to worship God authentically, free from the need to hide, thanks to Jesus, the way, the truth, and the life.
To the woman at the well, Jesus became the turning point of her life—not just for her, but for her entire village. She ran back, unashamed, to those who knew her past, declaring the Messiah’s arrival.
Her shame turned into a testimony.
God sees you. Every piece of your story is held in His loving hands.
The good, the bad, the beautiful, the scarred—they are all safe with Him. In His embrace, your weaknesses become strengths, your shame becomes joy.
Be encouraged and comforted. You’re not alone. The past doesn’t define you; His love does. So, go to Jesus with everything—He is waiting to welcome you, and bring you into wholeness.
