Scriptures about letting God take control

Learning To: Trust in God

Surrendering to God happens one choice at a time.
And it always begins with trust.

Trusting His plan when life feels confusing.
Trusting His timing when the waiting feels long.
Trusting Him with our fears by leaning into His peace.

This is how we let God take control:
not by holding tighter,
but by placing every part of our lives into His hands.

1. Trust in God’s Plan

When life gets hard, the first thing we do is look for our own solutions. But God is asking us to trust Him. He already has the solution in mind and  his answers are always the best.

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him.”
Romans 8:28 NIV

We may not always understand what the process looks like,
but remember what the Bible says:

“My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts… and My ways are far beyond anything you could imagine.”
Isaiah 55:8–9 NLT

We see this so clearly in Acts 16, when Paul and Silas were beaten, chained, and thrown into prison.

Nothing about their situation looked good…

Yet!!! They prayed, worshiped, and they trusted God in the dark.

One of the most powerful ways we can let God take control
is by remembering..

God is still at work in our lives, and the work God begins always results in good.

2. Trusting in God’s Timing

Letting God take control also means trusting in His timing.

“Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” – Psalm 46:10 NIV

Sometimes the hardest part of surrender isn’t believing that God can do something…
it’s waiting for when He chooses to do it.

While we wait, our attitudes, mindsets, and choices matter.

We see this in the life of Abraham. (Genesis 16, 21)  When he grew tired of waiting for God’s promise, he took matters into his own hands and Ishmael was born.

That one decision led to deep heartache — for Abraham, for Sarah, for Hagar, and for generations that followed.
It’s a gentle reminder that rushing ahead of God rarely leads to peace… but trusting God’s timing always leads us toward His good.

So what does a mindset of waiting well look like?

It means choosing to trust God even when your feelings don’t agree yet.
The psalmist modeled this beautifully:

Sometimes our emotions protest God’s plan.
Sometimes our hearts feel impatient, discouraged, or weary.
But our soul can still choose to trust Him.

Just like the Psalmist who wrote:

“Bless the LORD, O my soul, and all that is within me.”
Psalm 103:1

It’s the quiet, steady decision to bless God, trust Him, and wait — knowing that His timing is perfect, His plans are good, and the work He begins in us always ends in good.

3. Peace Beyond Understanding

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 4:6-7 NIV

1 Peter 5:7 CSB
casting all your cares on him, because he cares about you.

When we surrender our anxiety through prayer, we experience a peace that makes absolutely no logical sense. This peace stands guard over our hearts and minds when everything around us is falling apart. Letting God take control begins with bringing everything to Him in prayer.

How do we do this?

We take every anxious thought every fear to God in prayer. And watch how God’s grace covers your mind and soul.  Take a look at our next verse…

“But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”

2 Corinthians 12:9-10 NIV

The times when we feel the weakest are often the moments when God’s strength shines the brightest.
Surrendering control means being honest about our weakness and allowing God’s power to step in where we cannot.

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?” – Matthew 6:25-26 NIV

These verses about letting God take control of our worries show us His faithful provision. When we let God take control, we’re freed from the heavy burden of worry. The God who provides for birds takes care of you! The battle is not ours—it’s God’s!

We all face dark seasons, but we don’t need to fear evil because God is right there with us. His rod and staff – symbols of His protection and guidance – bring comfort even in the scariest situations. Letting God take control means trusting His guidance through every valley.

If you struggle to see God’s help today, remember His promise to never leave or forsake you. He has promised to finish what He started in you—and God always fulfills His promises.

And God is always faithful.
